3 Steps to Take Toward a Healthier You in 2017

It’s no secret that the happier and healthier you are on the inside, the better you look on the outside. When you get enough sleep, those pesky, purple bags under your eyes magically disappear. When you drink enough water, your blemishes and breakouts all but vanish in a flash. So, if taking steps toward a healthier you in 2017 wasn’t one of your New Year’s resolutions, it totally should be. For your beauty’s sake.

Who doesn’t want flawless, glowing skin; silky, flowing locks; and a gorgeous, healthy body? We’re pretty sure no one here would object to all three of those wishes being granted. But, since genies in bottles seem to be a rarity these days, we’ll have to settle for these three simple steps toward a healthier, happier us in 2017.

Step 1: Drink More Water, Seriously

Okay, okay. We know that this one is, like, so obvious. But, bear with us; we promise this is the most effective step toward a healthier you in 2017.

You may or may not be aware that human beings are 60-70% water—that’s a lot of liquid! If you don’t want to be a wilting orchid, make sure you’re getting an adequate amount of water each and every day.

Can’t stand the thought of chugging H2O 24/7? You can always load up your plate with hydrating foods like:

  • Celery

  • Watermelon

  • Cantaloupe

  • Strawberries

  • And bell peppers

Keeping hydrated not only improves your body’s ability to function, it can also keep your hair looking healthy and vibrant and your skin looking young and blemish-free.

Step 2: Work Stress Out in the Gym, Not the Kitchen

It might be super tempting to soothe your Monday evening anxieties with a few spoonfuls of double fudge chunk ice cream. But, you know that all that fat and sugar will only add to your list of woes in the long run.

What you eat in private, you wear in public.

Take some active steps toward a healthier you in 2017 by getting up off the couch and hitting the gym. Or taking a jog to the park. Or doing some quick at-home workouts if exercising in public isn’t really your thing.

Regardless of the way you get moving, it’s important to get moving for at least thirty minutes every day. We promise it’s better stress relief than that pint of Rocky Road, and getting your blood pumping can improve the look and health of your hair and skin as well as, well, the rest of you.

Step 3: Practice Mindfulness Every Day

Life can get unbelievably busy sometimes. Okay, all the time.

When you’re trying to juggle drafting up an amazing presentation for your boss, drinking eight to ten glasses of water a day, getting in a challenging workout, maybe having a social life, and feeding the cat you sometimes forget you have, it can be hard to imagine squeezing in time for meditation.

Our recommendation? Instead of decompressing at the end of the day with a few swipes through all of your social media apps on your phone, try devoting the final half hour before bed to writing in a journal.

Getting your thoughts down in pen on paper can help you to make faster, more effective decisions; organize your life more efficiently; and practice intentional mindfulness.

And, when you’re more mindful, you’re more likely to take better care of yourself in every way.

A more mindful you is a more healthy, beautiful you.
