7 Late Summer Do's and Don’ts


Summer is quickly coming to a close, but there is still time to fulfill some essential dos and don’ts before Fall rolls in. Take a moment to reevaluate your to-do list, and make time and space for things that matter!

7 Late Summer Dos and Don’ts

1. Do plan a trip.

Don’t overload your schedule.

Don’t let the season pass you by without one last hoorah! Grab some friends and family and take a short getaway before kids go back to school and life catches up. Just be sure you don’t overload your schedule with so many weekend plans that you don’t seem to have time to simply relax at home by yourself!

2. Do document your experiences.

Don’t share every moment.

Thanks to digital media, memories can last a lifetime! However, photos and scenic selfies are not the only ways to document your experiences. Try journaling about your day or setting up a personal blog as a way to reflect on your life and share those small, but memorable moments that can’t be translated through a lens.

No matter your choice, be sure to keep some memories just to yourself. Don’t overload your friends’ news feed with every detail. Share moments with others, but save your memories.

3. Do a digital detox.

Don’t cheat.

Treat yourself to a digital detox! When was the last time you spent a day without your phone, computer or TV? Pick a day that suits you and put all electronics away. Spend the day outside with face to face interaction or take an adventure like a hike or camping trip!

4. Do a little cleaning out.

Don’t hold on to items you haven’t touched in over two years.

Late July is the perfect time to do a little decluttering! A good rule of thumb? Don’t hold on to items you haven’t touched in five years! Cleaning out junk will help you head into the second half of the year with a clear mind and clear home. Now doesn’t that sound ideal?

5. Do hang out with friends.

Don’t forget to make time for those you don’t see often.

There’s never a bad time to spend with friends and loved ones, but make sure to spend time with friends and family that you don’t see often. Who is that person/family that you keep meaning to call and catch up with? Don’t keep putting it off! Plan a dinner or an afternoon out. If schedules don’t align, pick up the phone and call just to say hi. It may just make someone’s day.

6. Do create new goals.

Don’t repeat goals that you’ve tossed in the past.

How are those New Year’s resolutions holding up? We are past the halfway mark for this year, and if your original goals aren’t quite holding up it may be time for some new ones! Don’t recreate goals you have set in the past with no avail. If you still want to achieve the same results, approach your goals in a new way. Make a detailed plan and roll with it.

7. Do pick up a new, unique hobby.

Don’t be afraid to try something new.

Can’t think of a new goal? Try picking up a new hobby or learning a new skill. Check sites like Groupon to find great deals in your area to test out like yoga or a new kickboxing class! It can’t hurt to try, right? Just don’t be afraid to experiment with something new.

If you want to pick up a new skill at home, there’s likely an app for that! Dedicate each month to learning a new trade such as testing your hand at sign language for a month or speaking your way into a foreign language.
