Halloween is in the Hair: Last Minute Costume Ideas
Your hair sets the tone for your entire costume. Whatever look you are trying to achieve - start with your hair, use the right hair products and just relax and have fun.
For glamour-girl characters, go for sexy waves and curls. Braids are the best option to capture the essence of medieval maidens and fairy tale costumes. Add drama with hair accessories like shells for mermaids or flower crowns for Renaissance characters. Here’s your Halloween inspiration for a last minute costume. Halloween is in the hair….
Embrace your inner glamor girl with this flirty, finger-wave flapper hairstyle. Wet hair is needed for this style to take hold, so start with washing your hair using your favorite shampoo and conditioner. Gently towel dry. Apply a liberal amount of pomade or hair gel toward the top and front of your hair, for the finger waves. A smaller amount can be used throughout the rest of your hair. Create a deep side part so it almost reaches the crown of your head. Now you are ready to make waves. Use this how-to-hair guide or stop by your local Fantastic Sams and have your hair styled.
Start with lightly misting your hair with a shaping spray a slow-drying hair product that is ideal when working to perfect a certain style. Then pull the back section of hair into a high ponytail at the crown of your head, leaving the pieces around your hairline loose. Secure with an elastic. Twist the ponytail upward. Anchor it to the back of your head with bobby pins. Sweep the front section of hair back toward the twist. Pin with bobby pins allowing a few tendrils to fall out. Add a beautiful comb. Secure it in the back of the updo.
For dramatic looks, go big with teased hair using a texturizing spray for buildable volume and add a Styrofoam cone for maximum height. Start with spraying your hair upside down and teasing your hair until it’s high and big. Place the Styrofoam cone on your head in the desired position. Pull up large sections of your hair to cover the cone, bobby- pinning each section directly into the styrofoam. Continue until the cone is completely covered by your hair and it feels secure.
Apply mousse to damp hair. Blow-dry, tousling with your fingers. Make a loose center part. Using a curling wand without a clamp, wind a section of hair away from your face. Hold for 20 to 30 seconds, then gently slide curled hair off the wand. Repeat all over. Spritz curls with finishing spray to help hold shape. Run your fingers through the ringlets to separate them into bigger waves. Add colored hair clips for added drama or use temporary color spray for select strands.
Start with applying an egg–sized dollop of mousse through dry hair. Finger-tousle hair for fullness. Keeping the crown full, gather hair into a low and loose, side-pony tucked under one ear. Braid, loosely and secure with an elastic. Add flower hair accessories or keep it simple.
