Life After the Military: How Fantastic Sams Supports Women Veterans

"With Brave Wings She Flies."
Fantastic Sams is a proud sponsor of Operation Reinvent a non-profit organization dedicated to helping women Veterans transition from the military into the civilian workforce. Together, the goal is to provide Women Veterans with the tools,  confidence, and look they need to re-enter the civilian world with ease.

Life After the Military: How Fantastic Sams Supports Women Veterans

Imagine reporting to work every day year in and year out in combat boots, in camo fatigues, no makeup, and your hair pulled back in a bun. Imagine suppressing your feminine side every day because you have to be one of the guys so that your male comrades who outnumber you 10 to one won't perceive you as weak.

Imagine becoming a linguist, which is a really tough thing to do and learning Farsi so that you can go to Afghanistan and be a cultural liaison officer, where you won't take a shower for a month. These are the amazing women we are so privileged to serve as they step out of uniform and begin searching for their civilian jobs.”- Nancy Northrop, Co-Founder of Operation Reinvent.

Please join Fantastic Sams this October through November 22, as we partner with Operation Reinvent to help women Veterans.  We will be participating in special two-day workshops, sponsoring fundraising events and raising awareness. Operation Reinvent’s two-day workshops provide a transformative bridge between military service and civilian life and focuses on key elements of career success, including an interview skills day and professional image makeover day.

Operation Reinvent workshops will be held on October 26-27, at Fort Bragg, NC and Fort Hood, TX military bases.  These workshos are free-of-charge for women veterans transitioning from soldier to civilian life.

Fantastic Sams hairstylists and educators will not only be cutting and styling hair but also consulting and educating women on color and makeup applications to help recapture their femininity and gain the confidence to step out of uniform and into civilian life.

"Through Fantastic Sams partnership with Operation Reinvent, we are so fortunate to have the chance to welcome our female Veterans back into their civilian lives and relish the opportunity to bring a lovely smile to the faces that bravely represent our country. Fantastic Sams proudly gives back to those who have already given so much!” said Ruth Swanson, V.P. of Marketing for Dessange Group North America; parent company for Fantastic Sams.

Transitioning from military life to civilian life is tough for anyone, especially women as explained by a very special guest speaker at the Fantastic Sams Moving Forward Together Convention 2016 in September.

Deshauna Barber, the first woman actively serving in the United States Army Reserve to win the title of Miss USA, was our guest of honor during the 2016 Fantastic Sams Convention ASA Awards Dinner and is an inspirational influence for women Veterans. Barber currently works as an IT analyst for the United States Department of Commerce and serves as a Logistics Commander for the 988th Quartermaster Detachment Unit in Rockville, Maryland.

“It is so incredible to see how Operation Reinvent brings people together to help women veterans. I want you to know how important the hairstylists are at these workshops!  They impact the way we see ourselves - as women and as military veterans - when we look in the mirror. We can come to you and you are able to show us that sense of confidence again, just by what you do…I just want everyone to continue to support our soldiers that come back home from overseas. They need our help reentering into the civilian world.” - Miss USA, Deshauna Barber

The need of Women Veterans is indeed tremendous and much work still needs to be done. Just consider these staggering numbers,"Every year for the foreseeable future, more than 24,000 women will leave the military and have to reinvent themselves. And, with the continued support of Fantastic Sams, we can make this transition a more positive experience,” Julie Lewit-Nirenberg, Founder of Operation Reinvent, said at the Fantastic Sams 2016 Convention.

Emily, one of the new faces for Fantastic Sams 2017, is a recent graduate from the Operation Reinvent program and was able to share her testimony at Fantastic Sams Convention 2016. We are honored to be a part of her story.

“Operation Reinvent’s logo includes a butterfly. And, I think it perfectly exemplifies my experience,” Emily said at the Fantastic Sams 2016 Convention. “There’s an old saying that says, ‘just when the caterpillar thought the world was over, it became a butterfly.’ Operation Reinvent is a makeover from the inside out. I left that day with the tools and confidence I needed to spread my wings and fly.”

Fantastic Sams is proud to partner with Operation Reinvent at upcoming workshops on October 26 and 27, 2016 at Fort Bragg, North Carolina and Fort Hood, Texas. These workshops are free-of-charge for women veterans and help in the transition from soldier to civilian life.  Register Now for the Operation Reinvent Workshops
