Three Amazing Men's Hairstyles for Round Faces

When it comes to finding the perfect haircut, it’s important to go with a style that complements both your hair type (curly, thick, thin, etc.) and your face shape (round, oval, square, etc.). Unfortunately, for guys with round faces, finding the perfect hairstyle can be a little more difficult than it is for guys with oval or square faces.

The best hairstyles for guys with round faces will help elongate your face and make your head appear more oval-shaped. The trick is to find a style that adds volume up top while keeping the hair on the sides of your head shorter to avoid making your face look wider. While the options are a little more limited, the good news is there are plenty of haircuts that look fantastic on guys with round faces. Here are three of our favorites.

Side part

Why it’s a great hairstyle for round faces

The side part works really well for guys with round faces because the part directs attention to the sides of the head while the shorter sides help the face appear more narrow. It’s also an extremely easy hairstyle to maintain and style. If you’re looking for a versatile cut that can transition between formal styles during the work week and trendier looks on the weekend, the side part is a fantastic choice.

What to ask for

The side part is a common haircut so you shouldn’t have any trouble working with your stylist to find the right look. You can, however, play around with the lengths of the hair on the sides and top of the head to customize the side part. Depending on your ideal length, you can go with anywhere between 2 and 4 inches for the hair on the top of your head. The sides can be buzzed with anywhere from a 3 to 6 guard that’s faded from the top of your head.

How to style the side part

Your best bet is to find a styling product with a low-to-medium hold that works well for short-to-medium hair (we recommend our Matte Wax). While your hair is still wet, rub a small amount of the Matte Wax through your hands and apply it to your hair. Next, choose which side you want to part your hair on and comb the hair on the top of your head to that side. Then, comb the hair on the sides of your head down. Finally, style the hair above your forehead up to add some extra flair (optional).

High-volume flat top and fade

Why it’s a great hairstyle for round faces

This hairstyle gives your face a more squared look, making it a great choice for men with round faces. The flat top adds volume to the top of your head while the fade on the side gives your face the appearance of sharper angles.

What to ask for

When you go in for this cut, your stylist can help you pick the appropriate hair lengths. Ideally, shoot for a fairly short buzz (anywhere from a 2 to 4 guard) on the sides and back of your head. The hair on the top of your head should be longer and clipped in a straight line to create the flat top once it’s styled.

How to style the flat top and fade

This hairstyle is fairly simple to style. For your product, make sure to pick up a strong wax or hair gel (we recommend our X-treme Gel for all-day control). Start by applying the gel to damp hair, then, comb your hair up and back until you get the perfect flat-top look. For additional control, you can add some hairspray once you’re done to make sure the style holds all day.

Angular fringe

Why it’s a great hairstyle for round faces

The angular fringe is similar in style to an undercut or pompadour and keeps the hair very short on the sides while allowing the hair up top to grow out a bit. While still adding volume on top to give your face a more oval shape, the angular fringe also allows you to show off more personality than traditional cuts. With this style, the hair in front is left hanging over the forehead at an angle which gives the style a trendier, bold look.

What to ask for

You can go a few different ways with the angular fringe. The main component you can customize is the length of the hair on the side of your head. You can go as short as a skin fade all the way up to a 4 guard, but you’ll definitely want to keep the hair on the side significantly shorter than on top.

As for the hair on the top of your head, you should shoot for anywhere between 2 and 4 inches. The fringe should be long enough to hang over your forehead and come to a rest just above your eyebrows.

How to style the angular fringe

Once you have the hair cut at the perfect length for you, there are a few different ways to style it. We recommend using our Hard Wax for soft control to give the style a more natural look. Simply add a small amount of the wax to your hands and work throughout your hair. You can then just use your hands to style the hair on the top of your head the way you want.
